Questions

How do I open an .ipynb file without installing Jupyter?

Drop the file on this page to see every cell with its saved outputs. "Run it in the editor" opens it as a notebook you can run and change.

Can I view a notebook from GitHub or a Gist?

Yes. Paste the link to the file on GitHub (or its raw link, or a Gist) and press Open link. The page address then works as a view link you can send to someone else.

Is my notebook uploaded?

No. A dropped file is read by your browser and never sent anywhere. Links are fetched by your browser straight from GitHub or the site you pasted.

Why does a notebook from some websites not open?

Some sites do not allow other pages to load their files. Download the .ipynb from there and drop it here instead. Private GitHub repositories work the same way.

Can I convert a notebook to a Python file?

Yes. The .py button downloads the code cells as one Python script, with the markdown kept as comments and "# %%" between cells, the format editors such as VS Code understand as cells.
